Recently, gamification has had a tremendous impact on social interaction and online markets.  Although this concept has been around for some time with frequent flyer miles, happy hour at the bar, etc., modern technology and the influence of the current games culture has affected advertising, brands, educators, and even governments to change.  But can everything really become more engaging, social, and fun just by incorporating game mechanics? There is a significant difference between feeling rewarded and being rewarded.  Games tend to only offer extrinsic rewards for activities the player already finds fun.

Over time, people acquire skill.  When you do something you love and are good at, you develop a flow that often can not be interrupted!

5.  Know your Players!

Games are not fun because they are games. Games are fun because  they are well designed and properly used mechanics to drive motivation. Mechanics alone do not make something more interesting!
